Environmental problems such as pollution and climatic variations are increasing nowadays. The governments have taken some measures at a global level. But they got only few solutions. Why is it so? How con this problem be solved?

Saving the environment has become the top priority across the world. No country in the world disagrees with the fact that the Earth is at the brink of a climatic disaster, but the measures taken neither have legs nor the lengths to address the issue. This essay intends to look into why the measures have always fallen short of the mark, and suggest some solutions to mitigate the problem. The first reason why global measures have failed is that the developed world is shying away from the burden it needs to bear for the damage it did to the environment in the colonial industrial revolution times. Hence we are stuck in a limbo of bipolar world of developing nations on one side and the developed on the other. According to a stratum of society, individuals are being characterised as worthy by seeing their societal status and the material possessions they own while, traditonal principles like benevolence and respect have lost its significance. I vehemently agree with the above notion. In the upcoming paragraphs, the reasons for my stance will be elucidated.

People are of the opinion that earthly possessions are a major cause of happiness while others hold a different view, arguing that wealth holds no value in bringing about joy. Although material possesions may be a source of euphoria, it does not provide permanent satisfaction and may be associated with sadness. Both views would be further discussed and my opinion given. Happiness is a derivative of earthly possessions, as believed by certain individuals. Achieving a milestone or completing a project such as building a mansion, completing a family size brings gladness to the heart of men which they hold on to for a long period of time. For instance, a cousin of mine who was overjoyed at his recent appointment as the governor of Benue state, though tasked with many responsibilities, was glad having achieved such feat.
