A significant number of criminals become repeat offenders following release from prison. There are numerous factors that contribute to this, and this essay will focus on two key causes of this horrendous behaviour. Subsequently, this essay will propose sustainable measures that can reduce the likelihood of this re-occurrence. The most important cause is the lack of training facilities within prisons. Hence, inmates have no skills to exchange for money when they exit. Secondly, some inmates are the way they are because of psychological trauma at early ages of their lives. Imparting inmates with skills and rehabilitation are some of the most effective ways penitentiaries could use to alleviate this problem.
