IELTS Opinion Writing Samples Band 8
Nowadays, everyone understands that education plays an important role in human life. Some people think that it is necessary to be graduated from school. However, other parts of folks think that children should be free and choose their way on their own. I will discuss two options and give my own opinion.
Processed food and beverages containing an excessive amount of sugar are the causes of many detrimental health problems for people. This is the reason why many contend it is necessary to raise the price of sugary products to protect people’s well-being. Though such an intervention in the cost of those products may bring immediate wanted results, I argue that it is by no means the most intelligent choice.
It is largely believed that hard work and determination are pillars to achieve goals. On the other hand, some have the perception that money and physical appearance are more helpful. From my point of view, in order to obtain success our efforts and dedication play a vital role. This essay will discuss both my perspective & my opinion.
It is essential for people to make some risky moves in their careers, as well as in their individual life. In my opinion, even though taking risks may affect some people in short term, it allows them to create new opportunities and I believe this advantage far outweighs any potential drawbacks.
For the companies that attempt to advertise their products, it’s a common practice to put emphasis on how different their products are compared to that of others. Such an approach is profit-driven and results from the harsh competition in the market, and in this essay, I will provide the reasons why I contend that this practice is positive overall.
In recent years, a debate regarding methods to prevent crime emerged. In particular, some people argue that the death penalty is the most efficient way to achieve a reduction in the crime rate. Personally, I think this view is incorrect because fear does not resolve the crime problem and the scientific community has demonstrated that. In this essay, a brief explanation regarding the matter will be given.
Societies comprising people belonging to varied castes, languages, cultures and religions are referred to as multicultural societies. Whether a country with such a mixture brings more benefits or drawbacks is often debated. In my opinion, the advantages of a multicultural society outweigh the disadvantages. This essay will elucidate my assertions in the forthcoming paragraphs.
Technology has revolutionized contact as people are using several channels for cooperation. Some individuals think that in future, communication will be digitalized and the concept of physical meetings will be reduced. I partially agree with this view as physical synergy has its own merits and can not be neglected.
As the world is constantly evolving, buying a car by people primarily who reside in cities has become common. Consequently, there have been substantial traffic jams in most urban areas. I do not doubt that this is a natural phenomenon, and there are tons of encouragements not to own a car, which can be done by governments.
There is a strong belief that people have stronger communication when they spoke rather than a transcript. I believe that logos has lost its meaning and the only left in the world is text. In this essay, I will discuss both sides and show why words are more powerful when they have been written.
It is generally claimed that people who are making handsome money are prosperous. In reality, the definition of success varies from person to person. I partially disagree with this fact because some people think money gives them luxury and they feel successful with their huge bank balance, expensive cars and massive houses. Whereas others think following their passion, living with their family and taking care of each other is all they need in their life.
Schools are known as temples of knowledge, contributing towards the overall growth of children. There are individuals in our society who believe that students should be chosen based on their academic skills, however, there is another set of people who have a contradictory point of view on this and they believe that it is not appropriate to differentiate students based on their academic knowledge, rather should be given the opportunity to study together. I am of the same mind as the latter set of people and present some logical reasons in favour of my opinion.
People have many different views about the method which is likely to tackle issues related to traffic and transportation. Many believe to solve these problems is to encourage the public to live in urban areas rather than suburbs or rural areas. In my opinion, I strongly disagree with this idea due to the following reasons.
These days, the majority of our morality is changed due to financial matters. Hence, most communities judge people's success especially in business only based on their income. I believe this is an absolutely wrong way to measure the success of a profession. In this essay, the reasons for my opposition will be described.
Growing demands for a more convenient lifestyle in modern society have led to incredible improvements in stores. While some people believe that stores which are open 24 hours and 7 days a week have great advantages in various perspectives, others are concerned about their negative consequences. I generally support the latter views for the following reasons.
It is commonly argued that newly built houses should have the same manner of construction, whereas others desire that their home need to be styled in their own way.
Nowadays people tend to follow things that are more popular currently as their hobbies instead of what they are interested to do. Activities that we love to do in our spare time have changed when compared to the past. I totally agree with the above statement and this essay will discuss the reasons behind this.
In the modern world, scientific research is considered extremely important for the prosperity of every nation. It is believed that all the discoveries and research related to science should be handled by the public authorities and private organizations should not lead this. I partially agree with it, although private institutes can lead to the fastest results because of the investments and active resources available to them.
Every year, the Government is spending a huge amount of funds to improve arts such as music and theatre. This is beneficial for a specific community and improves the fun and entertainment in society. However, I agree, that the development of public services must be the top priority of a government, I do not think that spending on the arts is a waste of money.
In this modern era, social media plays a vital role in society especially towards teenagers as it is easy to influence the younger generation through different platforms, e.g. television, cinema, etcetera. In my opinion, the drawbacks of telecasting violence on these platforms affect young people drastically. In the upcoming paragraphs, the detrimental ramifications of this issue will be explained and I would also like to share some measures that could help to minimize them.
