In my point of view, the both views are all correct. I got a good grade at a practical exam and had a sufficient hight school grade, so I was accepted by my previous university. Other students who started the university with me were same, too. But I believe that universities need to see their real potential than their grade on the paper. Good grade doesn't mean the student has a talent and a passion on the study. They neee to see how great the student carries the task. If he or she cannot follow the lecture, then they can drop the student later.
