In recent years, there has been a debate over the conduction of various international sports competitions across the globe. While some people tend to believe that sport has no borders, and it is one of the means to improve an image of a certain state, others suggest that it gives a favour to certain countries that violate human rights, and, therefore, pose a threat to the international development. In this essay I will discuss why it is important to ensure that sport is not a part of the global politics and provide a list of the arguments that show why certain actors are interested to conduct sporting events in states that do not follow some provisions of the global humanitarian law.
