While access to clean water is undeniably a fundamental human right, as recognised by the United Nations, the idea that every household should receive water completely free of charge requires careful consideration. I disagree with the view that water should be universally free, as such a policy may create financial and environmental problems. Instead, I believe that governments should guarantee affordable basic access while charging higher rates for excessive consumption.
