"Made in China 2025" (MIC2025) was launched in 2015 as part of a long-term strategy aimed at helping China achieve greater self-reliance and leadership in strategic technologies and even full self-sufficiency in certain areas. MIC2025 continues the momentum of the Going Out policy, initiated in 2000, and is further supported by the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) launched in 2013. By leveraging state incentives, subsidies and tariffs, China succeeded in dominating the global supply chain for electric vehicles as well as equipment for solar- and wind-based electricity generation. In large-scale research, manufacturing, and markets, China can produce products that are high in demand more cheaply, quickly, efficiently, and competitively.
