There are several factors that can contribute to individuals having fewer hobbies. I guess the main reason of it is reduction of working time. For example, 150 years ago 10-12 hour per day, 5-6 day per week were normal, nowadays some countries are closed to a 4 day work week. Also current economics is much more automatized, and a lot of really high-paid specialists like programmers, doctors, financial sector workers could rest much more than current physical workers, and even ordinary workers like carpenters or couriers can work much less than their collegues from the 19th century. It is a natural process. Economy is growing, and people are more interested in different hobbies. I guess it is connected with the influence of social media, TV, and entertainment.
