Presently, the negative impacts of production and widespread use of plastic bags, bottles and packaging are well known. Plastic production pollutes the air and abundance use of it leads to soil and water pollution. In this essay, I will discuss how the plastic items are threats to the environment and also, I will outline some measures, for both governments and individuals, that could help to reduce plastic caused damages. Since plastic is by product of oil distillation, its manufacturing process leaves massive carbon footprint. During the production process, huge amounts of greenhouse gases enter the atmosphere, which leads to air pollution. For example, CO2 and CH4 gases that accelerate the ozone layer destruction. Moreover, plastic wastes can lead to soil and water pollution, because they are usually disposed in the nature, buried underground or discharged in ocean.
