For as long as I can remember, the meaningful challenge in my job experience is when I worked as a department manager, there was a new employee who repeatedly provided incomplete reports. They were asked repeatedly to include all the necessary information, but the reports continued to lack all data and had to be redone for someone else to do their job. At first, I was very upset and wanted to fire her, but I wondered if the new hire was getting the information clear, so I created a sample report for the new hire showing all the requested data. I also asked other supervisors to review this with their reports and post a chart of when the reports are due. As a result, everyone's reporting quality improves, not just new hires. I learned that it is really important to listen and clearly communicate expectations in order to achieve the desired results.
