In many countries around the world, the legal prohibition against tobacco smoking has been enacted successfully. However, several other countries have not introduced the official restrictions as of today for multiple reasons, which will be discussed further in this essay. On the one hand, those who oppose the implementation of smoking restrictions in public places share the view that these measures can be non-effective in terms of reducing the frequency of second-hand smoke. In fact, they tend to highlight that the additional cost of building special “smoking areas” in public places is added, which has been the case in many instances.
